Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation that has lived in Atlanta starting with her farmer great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts. Her father was a young man when he was interested in theatre. As an undergraduate at Emory University, he performed in several productions in Atlanta. When he joined the Air Force and appearing in an airforce production in Biloxi along with Betty Lou Bredemus. Eric Anthony was their first born. The couple got married in 1957. Walter was studying at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In the year 1957, they quit the Air Force and Walter began studying at Tulane University. Walter started working at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter along with Betty Lou started production in 1964 for the local children's Saturday morning television program Bum Bum and His Buddies and their Buddies, which they both funded. The Actors and Writers Workshop was founded in 1964 and ran for six years. They were joined by Lelisa Billingsley (also known as Lisa) as well as Julia (also known as Julie) at the time.
